The Upper Mustang 4WD Jeep Tour is one of the fantastic experiences to explore Nepal's most remote, hidden and culturally untouched areas. Upper Mustang is located in Mustang District of Gandaki Province in northwestern Nepal. It is a region of deserts, ancient monasteries, and villages influenced by Tibetan culture and breathtaking scenery. And it is also called the Last Forbidden Kingdom.
Private 4WD jeeps are a comfortable and adventurous means to see this unique place which is also a historic trade route between Nepal and Tibet. Each day of this tour will be an amazing cultural and natural experience from the deepest gorge of the Kali Gandaki to the ancient walled city of Lo Manthang. This tour is ideal for those who want to explore the beauty and heritage of Upper Mustang with their family and friends without going on a long trek.
On this day your journey starts with a scenic drive from Pokhara to Jomsom via Beni, Tatopani and Marpha. The route passes the world's deepest gorge, the Kali Gandaki river with amazing views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountain ranges. You will see beautiful villages and apple orchards before reaching Jomsom and spend the night at Jomsom.
After having breakfast we will continue our drive to Kagbeni, the gateway to Upper Mustang, where the necessary formalities of the permit are checked. We will pass through the traditional villages of Tangbe, Chhusang, Samar and Syangboche, along with the dramatic desert scenery, colourful cliffs and ancient Tibetan influenced villages. And we will reach Ghami and stay overnight in a local lodge there.
The day's hike will include some of the most extraordinary scenery in Upper Mustang. We will explore the renowned Mani Wall near Ghami and head to the historic palace and old monastery of Tsarang. The scenery is more barren and dramatic until you reach the legendary walled city of Lo Manthang, the former capital of the Kingdom of Mustang, where we spend the night.
Enjoy a day of cultural treasures in Lo Manthang. Explore old monasteries like Jampa, Thubchen and Chode Monastery and discover the rich Tibetan Buddhist traditions in the region. There is also a guided tour to Chhoser, where you can see the amazing sky caves in cliffs. The day is dedicated to experiencing the unique culture, history and traditions of Mustang and before another overnight stay in Lo Manthang.
Following breakfast head back up through the stunning scenery of Mustang. Pass through the places of Tsarang, Ghami and Kagben then reach Muktinath which is one of the most important pilgrimage places to both Hindu and Buddhist pilgrims in Nepal. Explore the sacred temple, the ever burning flame and 108 water spouts, and enjoy the spectacular views of the mountains. Overnight stay at Muktinath.
Come out of the high desert and pass through Jomsom and the Kali Gandaki Valley. The landscape transitions from dry to green hills and forests. Once in Tatopani, enjoy the natural hot springs, where you can unwind after several days on the mountains. Overnight stay overnight in Tatopani.
On the last day have a relaxed drive back to Pokhara passing through scenic villages, terraced agriculture and river valleys.
